For the past weeks, Uganda Wildlife Authority translocated more than 100 Kobs to Kidepo Valley National Park in, north eastern part of Uganda from Murchison Falls National Park. By translocating was a way of increasing the population of animal species in the Kidepo valley national park
Mr. Muhangi, UWA Public Relations officer, said at least 25 kobs were captured and translocated to Kidepo Valley National Park in the first batch of the exercise that took place.
Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the North Eastern part of Uganda on the Boarder of Uganda and Sudan. The park measures a distance of 1,442 sq-km and boasts of a great number of animal species more than any other park in Uganda. Therefore the translocation exercise increased population of Kobs into this park.
Mr. Muhangi, further said that there are less than 20 kobs in Kidepo valley national park and adding that the translocation exercise will help to increase breeding rate, diversify wildlife species and boost tourism in the park.
The park’s Game viewing is far the best with lots of game like the lions and other cats but they rapidly decrease the number of kobs in the park by feeding on them.
